Interpretive Activities

The park offers daily interpretive activities during the summer months. Check the weekly activity schedule when you arrive at the park to determine which programs are offered during your stay. To schedule a special activity for a school or large group, especially in the winter season, contact the Visitor Center directly.
Nature Walks Nature walks led by the park naturalist, or rangers, vary in length and are held at various locations throughout the park. Talks cover a wide variety of subjects: anything from redwood forest ecology to animal tracking. (Approximately mid-June through mid-September) Check current schedule at the park for program times and locations.
Junior Rangers Junior Rangers is an hour-long program for children ages 7 to 12 years. These programs are held during summer at the Visitor Center. Junior Ranger programs are occasionally held at Albee Creek or Hidden Springs campgrounds. (Approximately mid-June through mid-September) Check current schedule at the park for program times and locations.
Evening Campfire Programs Rangers and naturalists lead campfire programs during summer. Programs can include songs, skits, slide shows, and other activities. Occasionally night-time walks or star-gazing programs are offered. (Approximately mid-June through mid-September) Check current schedule at the park for program times and locations.
Litter Getter Program Children may participate in the Litter Getters Program and help us keep the park clean. Participants earn rewards for picking up litter in the park. Ask at the campground entrance stations about this program. (Year-round -- ask at the Visitor Center.)
Visitor Center Open daily, year-round.
Auto Tour Self-guided tour of the Avenue of the Giants. Open daily year-round. Various stops along the Avenue are marked with interpretive panels, or pick up a self-guided brochure at the Visitor Center, or in boxes at either end of the scenic highway.

You can help support the work of the H.R.I.A. (Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association) by becoming a member. Funds raised through memberships, endowments, and donations enable H.R.I.A. to develop displays, purchase equipment, sponsor research, publish interpretive literature, and also to fund the expansion of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center and its quality exhibits. A critical element in the success of the Association is its membership and endowment program. Individuals and families throughout the country have long supported the Association.
