Camping Information

  • $12.00 per night (July 1 -Sept. 15)
  • $10.00 per night (Sept. 15-May 14)

Senior Citizen discount - $2.00 off per night

NO DOGS are allowed in the environmental sites.

Register: Register at Burlington Campground (when staffed) or in the main office. Gate combination will be given to you after you register or check in at the park.
Facilities: Water and primitive toilets. You must treat the water. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. No showers.  Showers are available at Cuneo Creek or Albee Creek campgrounds, both approximately a mile away. Firewood is available at Albee Creek Campground.
Campsite size: Tent sites only.
Walking distance:
  • Campsite #1 - 50 yards from parking area
  • Campsite #2 - 150 yards from parking area
Vegetation: Campsites are located under redwoods.
River: Six miles east to the Eel River. Bull Creek (good for wading) is only a short walk from the camp.
Summer temperatures:
  • Highs: 70 to 90s 
  • Lows: 50s
Activities: Hiking and wildlife watching. Wading in Bull Creek. The Visitor Center is 10 miles away. Fishing is not allowed in Bull Creek. Some interpretive activities are offered at Albee Creek Campground.
Reservations: Can be made by calling 1-800-444-7275. Must be made at least 48 hours before arrival.
Maximum number of people per site: Eight
Maximum stay: 7 days
Travel Directions: From Burlington Campground: Drive four miles north on the Avenue of the Giants and turn left on Mattole Road (follow signs for Honeydew). Drive about six miles west on Mattole Road to the Baxter Environmental Camp gate. This is on the left side of Mattole Road and is marked with a small sign. The gate combination you got when you registered, or checked in at Burlington, will get you in the first gate.  Drive in to the second locked gate. This is the parking area. Walk in to the sites from there.
Firewood: Available at Burlington, Albee Creek, and Hidden Springs Campgrounds. Fires must be in designated fire rings only. No wood gathering is allowed.
Water: Must be treated or filtered.
Dogs: Dogs are not allowed in the environmental sites.
