Description: Campground is a ½ mile hike from the fire lookout. The views from the top of Grasshopper Mountain are worth the hike. Campsites are located under trees on the edge of a meadow.

  • Lows- 50s

  • From Grasshopper Road - 7 miles
  • From Burlington Campground - 7 miles
Campsite contains:
  • Level area for pitching tent
  • Chemical toilet
  • Untreated water is available at the fire lookout only when it is staffed. (Usually July 1 through October.) Otherwise, bring water with you.

Fires:
  • NO FIRES are allowed in the backcountry or the trail camps. Cooking stoves are OK.

  • No dogs are allowed on trails or at the trail camps.

  • No horses are allowed at the trail camps.

  • Hiking and wildlife watching. 

Animal life: Raccoon, gray fox, striped skunk, spotted skunk, coyote, bobcat, black bear, black-tailed deer, brush rabbit, black-tailed jackrabbit, deer mouse, California valley quail, turkey vulture, wild pig, wild turkey, red-tailed hawk, raven, Steller's jay, mountain lion, varied thrush.
