This trail is for those who would like to hike in the backcountry for the entire day. Be sure to take water and food and tell someone where you are going. There are several alternative routes to Grasshopper Peak. From the Big Trees Area, the trail to Johnson Trail Camp will take you to Grasshopper Road. From Grasshopper Road, you may hike directly up Grasshopper Road, or take Squaw Creek Ridge Road and make a longer hike. There is water available at the fire lookout at the top of the mountain only when it is staffed (approximately July 1 through September 30). Summer bridges at Williams Grove, Burlington, and Garden Club allow summer access to the lookout from the other side of the mountain.
