Trailhead: Visitor Center/Burlington Campground or Garden Club of America Grove
Location: Burlington summer bridge near the Visitor Center or Garden Club of America Grove parking area, 2½ miles south of the Visitor Center on the Avenue of the Giants.
Hiking time: Allow 8 hours
Distance:
  • From Visitor Center/Burlington: 6.3 miles one-way
  • From Garden Club: 6.1 miles one-way
Difficulty: Strenuous. Not recommended for beginners.
Elevation gain/loss:
  • Starting elevation: 300 feet
  • Gain/loss: approximately 3200 feet
Seasonal bridge access: Yes - summer only access from Burlington or Garden Club. (approximately June-September). Year-round access from Grasshopper Fire Road.
Description:
This trail is a good choice for an overnight or all-day hike. Be sure to take water and food and tell someone where you are going.  There is water available at the fire lookout at the top of the mountain only when it is staffed (approximately July 1 through September 30). Year-round access is from Grasshopper fire road along the Mattole Road.
Notes: This is not a bike trail. Hikers only. Bikes may be used on the year-round access trail on Grasshopper fire road.
