Greig-French-Bell Loop Trail
Trailhead: At the Greig-French-Bell Grove sign in the  parking lot
Location: North of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center on the Avenue of the Giants, ½ mile south of the townsite of Pepperwood. Mile marker 43.6 on the Avenue of the Giants.
Hiking time: ½ hour
Distance: ½ mile round trip
Difficulty: Easy

Description:
These memorial groves are dedicated to:
  • Thomas A. Greig: Save-the-Redwoods League counselor for 50 years.
  • Enoch Percy French: First superintendent of the Northwest District of the California State Park System in 1931.
  • Winifred Brown Bell: Counselor for the Save-the-Redwoods League from 1956 until 1989.

Along the trail, you will find the Girdled Tree. Its circumference at the base is 54 feet. In 1901, bark was peeled off and sent to San Francisco to reproduce the base of the giant tree. It was used as an information booth for a convention.
