Camping Information

Senior Citizen discount - $2.00 off per night

NO DOGS are allowed in the environmental sites.

Register: Register at Burlington Campground (when staffed) or in the main office. Gate combination will be given to you after you register or check in at the park.
Facilities: Water and primitive toilets. You must treat the water. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. No showers.  Showers are available at Cuneo Creek or Albee Creek campgrounds, both less than a mile away. Firewood is available at Albee Creek Campground.
Campsite size: Tent sites only.
Walking distance:
  • Campsite #3 - 50 yards from parking area
  • Campsite #4 - 150 yards from parking area
  • Campsite #5 - 200 yards from parking area
Vegetation: Campsites 3 and 4 are located under redwoods. Campsite 5 is at the edge of the Bull Creek channel and is in a more open location with meadow grass and a couple of old apple trees. Creek location varies from year to year and is not always right next to the campsite.
River: Six miles east to the Eel River. Bull Creek and Mill Creek (both good for wading) are only a short walk from the camp.
Summer temperatures:
  • Highs: 70 to 90s 
  • Lows: 50s
Activities: Hiking and wildlife watching. Wading in nearby Bull Creek or Mill Creek. The Visitor Center is 10 miles away. Fishing is not allowed in Bull Creek or its tributaries.  Some interpretive activities are offered at Albee Creek Campground.
Reservations: Can be made by calling 1-800-444-7275. Must be made at least 48 hours before arrival.

Maximum stay: 7 days
Directions: From Burlington Campground: Drive four miles north on the Avenue of the Giants and turn left on Mattole Road (follow signs for Honeydew). Drive about six miles west on Mattole Road to the Hamilton Barn Environmental Camp gate. This is on the right side of Mattole Road and is marked with a small sign. The gate combination you got when you registered, or checked in at Burlington, will get you in the gate.  Be sure to park well back from this gate as it is heavy and swings downhill. Drive in about a mile to the parking area at the end of the dirt road.  Walk in to the sites from there.
Firewood: Available at Burlington, Albee Creek, and Hidden Springs Campgrounds. Fires must be in designated fire rings only. No wood gathering is allowed.
Water: Must be treated or filtered.
Dogs: Dogs are not allowed in the environmental sites.
