Kent-Mather Trail
Trailhead: Parking area along the Avenue of the Giants, mile marker 15.00
Location: One and one-half miles south of Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center along the Avenue of the Giants.
Hiking time: ½ hour

These groves are dedicated to:

  • William Kent, a congressman from Marin County who introduced legislation to form the National Park Service
  • Steven Mather, who laid the foundation of the National Park Service and was its first director. He was also one of the founders of the Save-the-Redwoods League.

This trail may also be accessed from the Garden Club of America Grove parking area. Seversl plas offer views of the river. Look for osprey and other wildlife along the river.
