Gov. Wiliam Stephens Loop Trail
Trailhead: Parking lot ½ mile north of Miranda on the Avenue of the Giants
Location: In Stephens Grove, ½ mile north of Miranda on the Avenue of the Giants. Ten miles south of Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center.
Hiking time: ½ hour
Distance: ¾ mile loop

Description:
This grove is dedicated to William Stephens (1895-1944), who served as mayor of Los Angeles, congressman from California, and governor of California. In 1921, Governor Stephens signed a bill providing $300,000 for the purchase and preservation of redwood areas within California. Stephens Grove was a campground until the flood of 1964. Looks for signs of the old campground as you hike the trail.
